Cast Iron Cooking

Cast Iron Cooking

Have you ever lost or misplaced something and look everywhere you can think of but not find it?  That’s what happened to me when I was looking for my Cast Iron Cookbook.  About a month ago I received a Cast Iron Fry pan and I was so excited to get back to cast iron cooking.

I had received a Cast Iron Cookbook to review about a year ago but hadn’t used it that much.  When I started looking for it, first I went to the most obvious, the cupboard when I keep my recipe books. Nope, it wasn’t there.  Then I checked upstairs where I stash things I don’t use and might put in our community garage sale.  Nope, not there either. Then I got to thinking, I wonder if I put it in our last garage sale so I went out to the garage to look through the left over items only to not find it there either!  I’m going through my head of all the books I had placed in the sale and I kept thinking in my mind that I would never get rid of this book since I knew someday I would get another cast iron pan.

When I misplace something I try to retrace my steps but I had no luck what so ever finding my cookbook so while getting upset with myself, I reluctantly gave up on my search.  Fast forward a month later when I was pulling out a cookbook from my cupboard and what should appear but my CAST IRON COOKBOOK !!!  When I pulled the other book out, the row of books shifted and the book hidden behind the center shelf support leaned to the side and their was my missing cookbook!

I looked through the cookbook and found a recipe for banana bread so I could finally use my cast iron pan in the oven! I was so excited especially since I had three over ripe bananas!

Of course I didn’t have all the ingredients so I did my own thing on part of the recipe.  I didn’t have buttermilk so I made my own from 2% milk and cream of tarter, I used chopped hazelnuts instead of walnuts and I omitted the chocolate chips.

The banana bread smelled so good while baking and it tasted even better!  I’m so glad I found my Cast Iron Cookbook and now I can try some delicious recipes that remind me of when my grandmother would do nothing but cast iron cooking.

Some things cannot be done with the new plastic handled pans like put them into the oven for the final stage of cooking. However, I do not think cast iron does well in the dish washer.

Some of the plastic handled pans even melt on the cook top! I love the versatility of the cast iron. In most dish washers, it doesn’t do will, but I have one that works perfect! My hubby is the dishwasher! LOL You gave me a blog topic idea, Care of Cast Iron!! Thanks for stopping by.
