Beverage of Choice Not Sweet Tea
It’s been about two weeks since I changed my eating habits after I was diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. When I started searching on the foods to avoid or to eat, the one group that I thought I would have a major problem with is to cut down on sugar and sweets. Since I LIVED on sweet tea, the sweeter the better, I was wondering how I could ever come my “sweet tea habit”. Well it was easy and I’m not even craving it! This is the beverage of choice for me since I’ve stopped drinking sweet tea.
For my first beverage I brewed a container of wild sweet orange brewed tea, then I put it in the fridge overnight. It was SO delicious and the orange was another kind of sweetness that I didn’t even miss the sugar!
I have also been drinking more water but since I’m not thrilled with plain water, I add fresh raspberries and blackberries to the water. By using frozen berries, they helps keep the water cold longer. I’ve also added lemon and orange slices for another delicious taste.
After my container of orange tea was gone, I was on the hunt again for another flavor. This time I brewed up raspberry herbal tea and again it was ‘berry’ sweet, not sugary sweet. I must say I’m really loving my flavored teas and I haven’t missed the sugar at all.
I also want to share a few of my dinners, again trying to eat the right foods. A few days ago, I decided on a light meal of white albacore tuna on lettuce, a hard-boiled egg and watermelon. Fish is high in omega-3 fatty acids which helps remove liver fat levels and brings down inflammation. It was a simple but filling meal.
Another meal I made was grilled salmon which is my favorite! I purchased wild caught Alaskan Sockeye salmon and for this meal I pan-fried the salmon in olive oil and topped it with my homemade raspberry sauce. I’ve switched from white rice to brown rice but I decided to cook up Quinoa to go with the salmon, green beans and corn on the cob. Since hubby isn’t a salmon fan, I prepare him steak topped with onions.
I also have a new way to cook my shrimp. I use my sous vide cooker, I put the clean shrimp in a freezer bag, toss in some seasoning and lemon juice, zipping the bag up tight. When the temperature is right, put the bag in the boiling water, cook for about 30 minutes and all the natural juices stay in the shrimp. When I made this meal, I added broccoli, corn on the cob and brown rice. Another thing about my healthy eating plan, I’m not eating potatoes but having lots of vegetables. Broccoli is very good for fatty liver disease and I love it!
For snacks, I’ve moved away from having sweets everyday and I come up with a great all natural smoothie shake. I blended raspberries, blackberries and strawberries together in the blender, added a spoonful of protein powder and crushed ice. It was very thick but delicious and refreshing.
I don’t like to say I’m on a fatty liver diet, I’d rather it be a healthy eating plan since my goal is to eat healthy. http://themarthareview.com/fatty-liver-disease/

Sounds like you are on your way to a healthier diet and lifestyle!
Yes I am Paul and even though I’m eating about the same foods as before, it’s what I’ve cut out. MY SWEET TEA!! LOL But I’m not missing it so I’m good to go with my healthier eating.
Hi Martha
I believe some sweeteners are more devastating than other. I put modified corn sugars high on the list of bad ones and believe that synthetic sweeteners could be more of a problem than real fruit sugars found in real fruit.
Are the chocolate bars are safe now?
Yes they are Doug, my hubby has been said for years that diet sweeteners can kill you! High fructose corn syrup, which is in many foods, is super bad for the liver and now that I’m really paying attention to ingredients, it’s easy to choose the right foods. Dark chocolate is the “good” chocolate and I just got a supply of dark chocolate, fruit and nut protein bars. Looking forward to my healthy eating plan! Thanks for stopping by.
You’re doing fantastic with your new eating plan and I am so proud of you. I can’t wait to share some of the drinks you shared as I also need to give up Sweet Tea and plan water all the time isn’t my cup of Tea.
Thanks Glenda, I’m actually using a mix of my owe ideas, a few from Keto and finding posts shared on FB. I thought giving up sweet tea would be the worse but with me making fruit flavored teas, I’m fine. They are totally delicious and a different kind of sweet. Like you said, plan water isn’t my cup of tea either Glenda! Keep me posted on your Keto diet.
