Before the Devastation for Wordless Wednesday

It’s so heartbreaking to see the devastation throughout the western part of South and North Carolina caused from Hurricane Helene. What use to be peaceful rivers have now flooded towns with homes and people being swept away. I can’t imagine what the families are going through. So today I’m sharing pictures before the devastation for Wordless Wednesday and praying that the quaint little towns will be able to rebuild and thrive once more. These are two towns in western North Carolina that Rich and I loved to visit, one is Chimney Rock and the other is Lake Lure. The Flowering Bridge was created from the original road when a larger highway was built.

This is top of Chimney Rock State Park which had such beautiful views looking down from the very top when Rich and I visited the park last October.

Before and After

For those who haven’t seen the devastation, these are before and after pictures of Chimney Rock. I am so heartbroken for the town and everyone who lost their lives.

I hope you enjoyed seeing pictures before the devastation for Wordless Wednesday and keep everyone in Helene’s destructive path in your thoughts and prayers. Tomorrow I will get back to today’s prompt.

I hope they are able to recover and rebuild soon.

  2. Such beautiful pictures – I am still without words myself thinking about the devastation.

It is so unreal Julie, watching the videos is like watching a movie that you know will have a happy ended. It’s so sad but the town folks will probably do all they can to get their town back.

Thank you for sharing these pictures, Martha. The “before” photos are so beautiful! The forces of nature can cause such terrible damage in a very short space of time, and the reconstruction work takes years.

We loved visiting both these quaint small towns Tamara and I’m praying that in time the families still there will get their towns back. It’s so sad.

  4. It truly is heartbreaking, Martha! Thanks for sharing the before pics. I hope, too, that they’ll be able to rebuild.

Nature can be so beautiful but it can also be very destructive – in a flash. Thanks for the before and after photos.

I remember all the beautiful sites from our trip last October Lily. Never imagined a hurricane doing that much devastation inland. My heart breaks for them.

  6. Martha, you are a gifted photographer. How stupefying to see the before- and after images. Whole towns erased. Still, the before photos are gorgeous. Looking forward to what else you may share this month.

My heart breaks for the folks with their broken towns, so much devastation. But knowing how close knit they are, I can see them wanting to get their towns back Kebba. I love snapping pictures and never know when I will use them. I’m not even sure what the month will bring, I’m just winging it this month! Hugs and love from Lia and me.
