Back Before Christmas

Back Before Christmas

Back Before Christmas is a short poem I recently wrote.  The photos seemed to fall right in place.

When she walked down the runway,

The tears fell like rain.

He heard I’ll be back before Christmas,

As she boarded the plane.

 Two years have gone by

But the promise is kept.

She’s back before Christmas,

Happy tears we all wept.

  1. Seems there should be a story behind this. It let me feeling confused. I’d like to hear the backstory.

There is a story behind it but I wrote about the low and high points. She was torn between going back home (1200 miles away) and had said she would be back before Christmas. He was hoping it would be the same year but it took 2 years for her to get back. It was a happy ending even though it took two years. Some day I’ll have to write the story. Thanks for stopping by Barbara.

    Love a happy ending definitely!

  4. Beautiful poem. What kept her back that brought her home 2 years after?

Thanks Thelma. She had plans to return earlier but ended up with medical problems shortly after she went back. She had major surgery for a massive tumor in 2016 and then was recuperating. It was a long wait, but everyone is happy that she is back and doing so great. Thanks for visiting.

Nice use of suspense in the poem! I am glad she returned by Christmas, even if not the holiday of the year she flew away.

    • Martha says:

As much as us and others wished it was the same year, I think God had other plans. If she was down here when her tumor was found, she wouldn’t have had the top surgeons from Cleveland Clinic preform her delicate surgery that could have left her paralyzed but didn’t because of the expertise and patience of the top neurosurgeon. God had a plan for her to be delayed two years but the love of those here waiting only grew stronger. Thanks for visiting Ruth.
