For the blog alphabet challenge, B is for Bluebirds.  I love all the birds in our backyard and we have a variety of bird feeders scattered all around. We have gorgeous Cardinals, which were my mother’s favorite, Hummingbirds, all kinds of Wrens and lots of Blue jays.   We have had a few Goldfinches and even a beautiful Painted Bunting visit during the winter.

I had never seen a Painted Bunting in the twenty years we have lived in the south so when I saw this beauty in our back yard, my first thought was it was a pet bird that had got out of his cage.  I snapped a picture and posted on my social site asking if anyone know what it was and immediately got a response.  So camera in hand, I waited for him to settle down on a tree branch so I could get the best possible picture.  He stated around the yard a few days and that’s the last we have seen of the Painted Bunting.

But of all our backyard birds, the Bluebird is my favorite.  The bluebird is about 7″ long and the male has a rusty red breast, white belly and a beautiful blue head, back and tail.  The female also has a rusty red breast and white belly but is grayer with faint blue elsewhere.   The bluebird is actually a cousin to the Robin.

inhouse

Bluebirds make nests in tree cavities or man-made nesting boxes.  We have bluebird houses scattered on the back fence and it’s so interesting to watch them build a next and get ready to move in and start a family.   When I took these photographs, the female bluebird on the fence seemed to look at me and pose for a picture! After they set up housekeeping, they would always peek out of the nesting box to see what was going on.   We have had a few checking out the nesting boxes this spring plus we added a new on to the fence.  I’m hoping we can get a few bluebird families to build nests this year.

This is my alphabet blog for the A to Z April Blog Challenge  The challenge is to write a blog starting with the  first letter of the alphabet on day one and continue through the month every day except Sunday.  There are just the right number of letters as the number of days in the month.  So tomorrow I will blog about the next letter.  See you tomorrow!

Unfortunately, the Amazon ad overlaid your blog all the way down the page, making it hard to read and almost impossible to enjoy your beautiful photos.

Thanks for letting me know about the ad overlay Jack. I’ve removed a few but can you let me know which ad it was so I can try to correct this issue? Thanks for visiting.

Unfortunately, the Amazon ad and the A to Z challenge badge overlaid the page all the way down, preventing me from reading your blog and enjoying your beautiful photos. It also interfered with leaving a comment.

I think I removed the A to Z badge, I opened my blog without logging in and don’t see it now. But sometimes it shows up and other times it doesn’t. I’m trying to remember how I got it there! Thanks for visiting Jack.

It’s so cool that you have so many birdhouses in your backyard. I bet the babies are adorable ♡

I was never able to get pictures of the babies but it is so neat to watch mama bird take food into the house for them. As they get older, they actually pop their little heads out waiting for her to come back! Thanks for visiting Amy!

These are fabulous pictures. I can’t wait for the birds to come back here. We just received a bunch of snow yesterday and miss the birds singing in the mornings.
