Avatars or Gravatars
When a picture is next to comments left on other blogs it seems a bit more personalized and easier to remember by having a face to go with the name.
When I started blogging I didn’t know what Avatars or Gravatars were. I soon found out an Avatar was my picture next to my name on my blog. An “Avatar” is an image that represents you online—a little picture that appears next to your name when you interact with websites. A “Gravatar” is a Globally Recognized Avatar. You upload it and create your profile just once, and then when you participate in any Gravatar-enabled site, your Gravatar image will automatically follow you there. WordPress is one of the Gravatar enabled sites.
I’ve always had my picture as my Gravatar on my blog as soon as I realized what it was. But since Lia has joined in so many blogs with me I recently changed and now there is a picture of both Lia and me.
I’ve mentioned previously that when I started my blog I didn’t have a clue as what would come next. When I ran into a snag I would do the trial and error trick, learn by my mistakes or search online to see if I could find an answer.
So this is something else I just learned. I’ve always seen the “Author” tab with my name on the right side of my blog as I’m writing it. Since Lia writes so many blogs I thought wouldn’t it be cool to somehow have her name listed as an author also. After doing some research again I found out I could do that!
I went to my dashboard, scrolled down to the “Users” tab. Once there I clicked “Add New” and I added Lia. So now when Lia and I write her blog she is listed as the author.
YAY I accomplished something new all by myself again! Across the top of Lia’s blog it shows her name, the date and the different categories her blog is being shared to.
I like trying to come up with answers to things by myself before I cry for help. I thought changing my Gravatar was a big accomplishment but now adding Lia as an author is even more exciting!
Good for you, Martha. It’s always fun to see what settings can be changed and why.
Thanks Roy! I’m always excited when I learn something new.
So amazing! What a wonderful life Lia is having. There is nothing better we can do in this world than love a child! You do a great job of sharing your joy in the adventure. Thank you Martha.
Thanks Cindy, Lia is such a loving child and so easy to love! We have so many fun adventures and she’s learning something new every time.
It is quite an accomplishment! I think it’s great that you were able to have Lia’s name as the author of her posts. And oh my goodness, those pics of the two of you brought tears to my eyes!! You get me at least once per challenge, LOL.
Lia knows how to spell her name and when I showed her the author tab, she looked at her name and said, “L-I-A” Sorry I didn’t put a tissue alert Jeanine, I thought you had already seen those pics! LOL
Well done. I need to fiddle around with my blog settings to see what can be improved.
It’s exciting when I learn new things on my blog Virginia, especially when I can do it myself.
Martha, fantastic! I have also seen the word “avatar” used for those little cartoony images of us. When I remember where I went to construct mine, I’ll let you know. 🙂
Yes so have I Kebba. I did make one a while ago from a FB advertisement, I think.
Awesome post. Part of being a great blogger is learning new things. Keep writing and learning.
Thanks for the compliment Amanda. I love blogging and I love learning new things on my own.
