Apple Crisp

The other day when shopping at Walmart I came across Macintosh apples from Glenmont New York. Growing up, I had lived in Charlton NY since I was 5 years old and Glenmont is in the next county. Every time I see apples anywhere from the upstate NY area I get excited because New York State has the best apples in my opinion but when they come from “close to home” that’s even better! So yesterday I made apple crisp and it was so good.

I tried something new this time, I didn’t peal the apples. For me the skin is the best part so why cut it off when baking? The recipe was very easy and I don’t usually measure but I tried to keep track so I could share the recipe with you. I used 8 medium sized apples, cored them and then cut the slices in pieces.
I melted a stick of butter then added 2/3 cups each of brown sugar, flour, old-fashioned oats and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon in a bowl. Blend that all together so the butter mixes up good with the dry ingredients then sit that aside.

In an 8″ square baking dish I rubbed butter on the bottom and sides then added the apples. Next I added some lemon juice over the apples and mixed them together. I added the topping mix and baked for 35 minutes at 350 degrees.

It was so go, hot out of the oven served with whipped topping and sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. Of course ice cream would also work to top the apple crisp.
Do you prefer whipped topping or ice cream on your apple crisp? Let me know if you try my apple crisp recipe and what you think of the taste.
