Another Month and Time for Another UBC

It’s another month and time for another UBC, are you ready for the challenge? It’s time to get your fingers peeking on the keys and write a blog each day for the month of October. For those who are new to the challenge, four times a year, January, April, July, and October members write a blog each day for the Ultimate Blog Challenge. Our host, Paul T. sends a suggested prompt out each day to help you along. Some take the prompt idea, others write about their own ideas. For me, I usually write about cooking and baking, gardening, nature and photography and of course my blogs about my daily life.

The challenge is a great way to watch your stats increase by reading, leaving comments and sharing other blogs and they in turn do the same for yours.

I joined in on the UBC back in January 2016 and this will be my 40th challenge I have participated in and so far completing them all. The past year had been a struggle but the last October challenge was more than a challenge, it nearly broke me. I had normal life struggles of just trying to survive (mentally) and then I had problems with my website. I was forever running out of disk space so I upgraded to Host Gator Professional and that gave me more space. For a few weeks that worked but then I was right back over my limit. Before writing each blog I had to go in and delete files and photos. I wasn’t even sure if I could finish the final week but I did!

I didn’t even open my blog until a few weeks ago and after chatting with Word Press and Host Gator I was able to reduce my disk space drastically. Seems like my backup program was saving each blog over and over which is why my disk space was always used up. The problem has now been rectified (at least I hope it has) and I’m ready to start my 40th UBC.

A few years back, when I realized how many challenges I had been in, I come up with a personal challenge to reach 50 Ultimate Blog Challenges. After Rich passed away 18 months ago, each blog has been harder and harder to complete but I keep trying. I will finished this month’s challenge and have the big 40 under my belt. I was going to “retire” after this one but now I’m thinking maybe I can go on for 10 more. If I can do this, my 50th blog would be in April 2028, a month after my 79th birthday and 4 years after doing this alone without Rich by my side offer his great wisdom. Can I do it, I don’t know but I have so many wonderful blogger friends that I follow and they follow me, I’m going to give it a try.

I’m wishing everyone a great blog challenge, look forward to seeing returning members and greeting new ones. In the end we all become like family.

Today is also Wordless Wednesday, a day where many bloggers just post a picture without words. Sometimes my Wordless Wednesday has no words, other times they do. It’s been 18 months since the love of my life passed away Easter morning March 31, 2024 after being together 59 years. I know he is watching over us and until we meet again, I will continue to love and honor Rich through the happy memories we had together.

I started my blog on Christmas Day 2014 mainly to review products I received. Since then it has evolved into many other categories of lifestyles, family, money saving ideas, low cost, delicious and healthy meals plus other surprise posts. My granddaughter has her own category, Alex's Articles and the latest addition to my blog is my great granddaughter now has her category, Lia's Likings The Baby Blogger! Lia started blogger at 8 months old and she now has a Friday Story Time blog you won't want to miss! I welcome you to join the conversation, ask a question, give a suggestion or leave a comment on any blog post. I hope you enjoy Lia's Likings, she has some great posts that will make you smile!

Congrats on 40 challenges!! Holy moly!

    • Martha says:

Thanks Kandas, when I started I never had a plan or thought about how many challenges I would do. But as the years went by I loved blogging and looked forward to the next challenge.

  4. Winona says:

Wow…40 without fail. You are an inspiration.
I don’t want to think about you retiring. I know you can reach your personal goal at least.

    • Martha says:

Thanks Winona most of my “get up and go” with blogging is because of all the blogger friends I’ve met. I say, this will be my last but then I look forward to the next one. I’m hoping I can keep going.

  5. Cheryl says:

Wow, 40 challenges! You are an inspiration to all of us! I’m looking forward to reading and learning from you.

I love your pictures today. Rich is certainly with you as you continue to carry on. Take care.

    • Martha says:

Thanks Cheryl, in the beginning I never anticipated I would be writing blogs every day of the challenge. Then it just became habit and I looked forward to the next one. I’m hoping I can continue feeling that way because I love my blogger family! Yes Rich is definitely watching over us.

I have enjoyed following your blog since you first arrived at the Ultimate Blogging Challenge. You are such a good storyteller. And then, when you added Lia to your blogging circle, it was so delightful. She is a very talented young lady, and she definitely inherited your gift for storytelling. Thank you for being here. Hugs to you from alice.

    • Martha says:

Thank you so much Alice. I remember when Lia was younger I would read her your blogs and she loved your drawings. The one that stands out is when she saw your bear with a red sweater and drew her version of it, I think she was maybe 3 years old!

  7. Martha, so good to “see” you and read your thoughts. This will be a great month! I will post as often as I can, and I know you will also. Love and hugs–

    • Martha says:

Yes another challenge is upon us Kebba. I’m looking forward to you wisdom and silly Saturday. I’m so glad you came up with that topic. Hugs and love to you.

  8. Lily Leung says:

Congrats on your 40th challenge, Martha. I haven’t kept count of how many I’ve done. I did a check and found I started my first in April of 2014. I have participated in many but not sure if every one. I hadn’t learned to tag them as UBC yet. It’s good to see you here again and you’ve done great.

    • Martha says:

WOW that’s a lot of years too Lily! I’m not sure when I “stumbled” onto your blogs but I so enjoy them. Your writings are similar to mine, a little about life and that’s what I find interesting in your blogs.

  9. It’s always so good to see you back, Martha! I admire your goal to get to 50 consecutive challenges. I’ll be proud and excited for you if you do, but even getting to a 40th is a HUGE accomplishment. I encourage you to take care of yourself and maybe hanging out with fellow bloggers can be a part of that. but if it gets to be too much, you have to put yourself first.

    • Martha says:

Thanks Jeanine, at the end of every challenge this past year I kept saying I can’t go on. Then I got the email from Paul about signing up and all my dear blogger friends pop in my head. I’m happy with 40 but I’d love to see 50. I’ll take one challenge at a time and see where it goes. Hugs to you!
