Another Delicious Green Bean Mix
Back in January I got a free Costco membership from Uber. We stocked up on meat including steaks and after freezing them in individual servings they ended up costing about $3.40 per meal.
The other day I cooked up 2 servings of the top sirlion and smothered them with onions. But that wasn’t the best part of the dinner.
I also got a huge bag of fresh/frozen green beans at Costco and I’ve been cooking them up different ways. One of my favorites is to saute the green beans in butter and toss in some slivered almonds. The other day I did that but I also added dried cranberries.
Now here’s what else I did after I removed the cooked steak and onions from the pan. I added the green bean mixture into the same pan which included the steak drippings. I tossed the beans, almonds and cranberries in with the steak drippings and what a delicious flavor!
To finish off the meal, I boiled up some new potatoes with butter. The two dinners of steak with onions, green bean mix and boiled potatoes cost under $5.00 per meal! I must say my serving of green beans mixed with the almonds and cranberries was much tastier than Rich’s plain green beans!
Do you like to experiment by adding different ingredients to your recipes when cooking? I like to be creative especially with vegetables. Now I have another delicious, healthy green been recipe to add to my list.
That looks so tasty! I just got up and had breakfast, so I’ll be back later..!
To answer your question: yes, I constantly tweak recipes, sometimes to integrate leftovers, sometimes to “enhance” it because I think I have a brilliant idea – does not always turn out the way I imagined though ;-)))
It was delicious Tamara! I tweak my recipes for the same reasons! While they don’t always turn out they way I think, I consider it a learning experience. LOL
All the yums! I’m going to have to try this recipe soon. My family loves green beans and finding ways to jazz them up while cooking with my daughter is always fun.
That’s great that you daughter likes to cook with you Michelle! Another hint for green beans, I add bacon pieces to them at times also. But the cranberries were really sweet!
These sound Delicious Martha .The cranberries and almonds sound like the right amount of sweet and crunch.
That’s about what it was Amrita! I’m not sure what got me hooked on cranberries, I really never cared for them until Lia started putting them in her banana muffins!
Martha, I adore green beans, and they are so virtuous, nutritionally speaking! Thanks for all the recipe ideas using them. Btw, I also get the Big Bag of frozen green beans at Costco. I love to toss them, frozen, into a wok or pan, with olive oil and some other veggies. Yumm!
Kebba we have so many similar ideas! That’s the way I prepare them also but I switched from olive to avocado oil and sometimes I add crumbled bacon with them. Of course I have to add a bit of butter since that’s my downfall! These are the best green beans!
Those meals look so good. Green beans is one of my favorite vegetables. 🙂
Mine too Amanda plus they are healthy!
