An Extra Forty Pounds
It’s been a week already since I had my surgery and for the most I’m feeling good. I haven’t had much pain at my four incisions but inside will take a bit longer to heal. I’m even eating, not a lot but I’ve had hard boiled eggs, ham fingers, rice and even macaroni with air fried salmon! But yesterday was the best day, I gain an extra forty pounds!
As for an extra forty pounds don’t think this is bad, it’s GREAT! Lia finished school Friday and she spend the day with us, all forty pounds of her! LOL If that wasn’t the best medicine I could have! If you notice the bruises on the chest, that’s where the nurse beat me up telling me to wake up from surgery. Gosh did that hurt but it woke me up!
As soon as Lia went into the kitchen she wanted to bake the muffin recipe that Tamara shared in her blog over the weekend. Lia decided to make them with strawberry and blueberry. She even color coordinated her muffin liner colors to match the fruit and washed the baking pans when done.
Then she decided to bake chocolate cupcakes so we have lots of goodies that I can’t eat yet! BTW the muffins are delicious, I did try a small piece of the strawberry one, I’ll try the blueberry later!
I asked her if she wanted to takea break for lunch, and would she like some ham and hardboiled eggs. She thinks a minute and tells me she would rather have shrimp. When most four year olds would be satisfied with ham or a hotdog, Lia prefers shrimp or crab legs. LOL as she was eating she said, “Ma, let’s have a bake sale again! I can make my favorite Italian cookies!” So after lunch we worked on her cookies. She’s coming back today and we’ll have a tiny bake sale for Lia’s Sunshine Bakery Alzheimer’s Fundraiser.
Lia brings smiles with her and is always ready to share them with everyone. Pop and I need to get our fill of hugs, kisses and smiles because Thursday Alexandra and Lia are going to fly to Indiana to see her brother and sister. Lia is excited to see her aunt and uncle again.
It’s been two years since we’ve all been up there and both are excited to visit again. Zachary’s birthday is July 21st, he’ll be 24 already! I’m sure they will have a birthday party for Zac and an early one for Lia while visiting their Indiana family and friends.
My day with an extra forty pounds was the best day for pop and me. It was like an instant get feeling better for me while baking and watching Lia take pictures of herself using SNAPCHAT filters! If this is what she is going to look like when she gets older, watch out world!
Lia definitely brings a smile to my face too when I see her baking and cooking and gardening. Its s perfect way to grow up Martha. Its great that you are better.
I’ve always said Lia was born smiling and is always ready to share it Amrita. Everything that Lia is doing, brings bake memories of when I was her age and did the same thing with my mom and grandma!
Glad you’re feeling better, Martha ♥
I’m so happy Lia made the muffins! They look delicious, and I do hope her customers are going to like them. Good luck with the fundraiser!
The muffins are delicious Tamara, thank you for the recipe! I’m feeling a lot better and her bake sale was a sell out!
My son and I used to bake muffins every day when we were vacationing in Maine. Now he does it with his family.
That’s so great how you son keeps up with baking. I’m hoping Lia will and the memories of us baking together will hang on with her forever Kate.
I’m glad to hear you’re getting better after the surgery. These muffins/cupcakes make me hungry. Lia’s doing well with her baking skills.
Thanks Danwil, between Rich and Lia they are both keeping me under wraps. The muffins were delicious!
Hi Martha! You gained 40 pounds of pure joy! What a day, I bet you were a bit tired by day’s end, but it was the best tired ever! Lia is so delightful. I loved that she expressed herself so well. She is an amazing child! Enjoy and keep getting better! Cindy Rae
You nailed it Cindy, pure joy for sure! I didn’t realize how busy we were baking for four hours straight. But it was the best medicine ever! Lia is the most loving and compassionate child and kept asking me if I was okay.
What a sweet and smart little girl! I really am looking forward to seeing what she is going to do moving forward!
I expect great things!
Enjoy your time before her trip!
Oh yes Dominique, she already has a few ideas she talks about when she grows up. We’ll have to see if they change. One is a nurse, another is a firefighter!
Glad your granddaughter is both participating and critical to your recovery!
Lia is a big part of my recovery Roy. She’s a little nurse!
Glad you are doing better! Hope the muffins freeze well so you can eat one later!
I’m doing very well Angie! I have the muffins and Lia lemon zucchini bread frozen in individual bags so I can take out one serving.
Best of luck with the bake sale. I know you will sell out! I hope you feel better soon, Martha. Much love.
Lia loves to bake and it was so cute when she told me she was going to have a bake sale. Last minute but she received $170 in donations in less than an hour Brenda! Lil Ms. Sunshine is a go getting for sure!
