A to Z Quilts
We only have 10 days left in the A to Z challenge! Since today is the letter “Q” I’m sharing A to Z Quilts. All the quilts are hand made and to be cherished and passed on to generations to come.
This is a quilt my mom made back in the early 80’s. She actually made two identical quilts and my oldest daughter has one to be passed down to one of her children and then hopefully the grands and great grands. This one is laying over my mom’s rocking chair and will be given to Alexandra when I depart this world. I’m sure she will present it to Lia in the years to come and she in turn can pass it down to her children.
Another handmade item made by my mom is this quilted wall hanging. This was actually started by my grandmother who appliqued the hats and dresses and my mom finished embroidering the Sun Bonnet Sue babies. She than stitched three together and planned to make a wall hanging. Mom passed away before she could complete this task but my quilter friend added the purple boarder and banding and turned it into a beautiful wall hanging. My grandmother started this project probably around the 60’s, mom worked on it in the 70’s and my friend completed it in the late 70’s. It sure is a labor of love and another memory to pass down to Alex and then Lia.
Back in November 2016 my grandduaghter had major surgery to remove a tumor entangled in her chest wall and had infiltrated into her spinal cord and left shoulder. One of our clients heard about her up coming surgery and her church group made this beautiful prayer quilt for Alex. Everyone who helped make it signed the back along with many other of our friends. This quilt was blessed by the Luthern pastor from the church who made it, blessed again by a friend’s Methodist minister and again by the priest of our Roman Catholic church before we took the quilt to Alex in Ohio for her surgery.
The quilt was placed over Alex in the pre op room and then I carried it with me while waiting for her 12 hour surgery to be completed. While waiting the hospital Chaplain stopped by to talk with us and saw the quilt. He too blessed it and prayed over it. I know all the love and prayers that went into this prayer quilt is what help Alex recover as quickly as she did. http://themarthareview.com/finally-time-for-alexandras-surgery/ All these A to Z Quilts have so many memories and will be cherished forever.
But there are a few other “Q” words and I posted a blog last August when I participated in the A to Z Food blog challenge! Are you ready to see some delicous “Q” meals? http://themarthareview.com/a-to-z-food-challenge-q/Thanks for visiting our A to Z Quilts blog!
Those are beautiful quilts! And what a lovely thing to do to have the one for the surgery for Alex. That’s a heartwarming story! I think it’s great when quilts get passed down from generation to generation.
Thanks Jeanine, hopefully these will be passed down through many more generations.
Great post.
Thanks Amanda.
