A to Z Mama’s Minkys
Lia and I are zipping through the alphabet and today is the letter “M” so I thought what better to write about than A to Z Mama’s Minkys.
Mama’s Minkys was born on August 23, 2018 the same day that Lia was born! I had made a Minky blanket for her baby shower the month before she was born. After her mommy opened it, she said we should start making Minkys so on the day Lia was born, so was our Mama’s Minkys business.
Minky fabric is a super soft faux fur type fabric and the one we use on the blankets has little swirls that look likr roses, that’s why it’s called Rose Bud!
Alexandra has been the one to come up with Minky colors and coordinating face fabrics for the blankets. Lia became our Quality Control Inspector when she was a few months old.
We’ve created many Minky blankets and pillows for new borns, toddlers, and even adults. They all love the super soft fur! On our Facebook page for Mama’s Minkys we have an album of Happy Minky Babies from the pictures that are sent to us.
One of my favorite Minky creations was a gift for a dear friend from way back in the 1980’s. We had decorated her beautiful home and became great friends. After a massive stroke I sent her a Minky blanket with Peppa Pig since I remembered she loved pigs and had a collection of all kinds. But she never had a piggy Minky blanket! I also chose this pattern because the fabric was so close to the color of the fabric we used in her master bedroom 30 some years ago and she still has it!
A few months after Lia was born we surprised her with a heart shaped Minky rug to go in front of her crib. It didn’t take long to add our Heart rugs to Mama’s Minkys. Now her heart Minky rug is in her Princess playroom, the perfect spot!
Lia loves helping me pin the fabrics together and sew them. When it’s all completed she puts her inspector’s hat on and checks the new Minky blanket out.
When Lia was younger she would hold a small piece of the Minky fabric and rub it over her check. I took two pieces and stitched up a small rectangle for her to cuddle with. That was how our butterfly cuddler came about. I cut a butterfly shape out of Minky and a print fabric and stitched them together, tying a ribbon around the center. Lia loved her butterfly cuddler especially since the print fabric had butterflies on it!
So what started out as a shower gift turned into Mama’s Minkys! They are made with love and baby approved! Hope you enjoyed reading about A to Z Mama’s Minkys and how they were born!
They look so soft. I love that they look like roses. It wonderful that your whole family helps make them.
We’ve always included the family in our business ventures Brenda. Alex started “working” in our shop when she was 6 weeks old. <3
What a sweet blog post. 🙂
