A to Z Food Challenge – M

The A to Z Food Challenge – M is going to be delicious. Lia loves Mac and cheese and when we ask her what she wants to eat, she opens the pantry, grabs a packet and says, “Mac and cheese please!”

I remember when I was young I loved the mac and cheese my grandmother made but she made homemade Mac and cheese. It was loaded with cheese that she shredded herself, no bag of shredded cheese like we have today. She also topped it with MORE cheese and did it smell good while baking. About the last 15 minutes gramma would sprinkle crumbled potato chips over the top and they would brown slightly. My grandmother’s mac and cheese was the best!

My favorite macaroni dish is Macaroni salad. Lia’s and my recipe is very simple. Just add sliced hard boiled eggs and tuna to the boiled pasta, add seasoning to taste and stir in mayonnaise. A big bowl of macaroni salad goes great with burgers, steak, grilled chicken or just eat alone!

Lia can show you how easy it is to make! Here is a link to a blog her and I put together with our recipe. http://themarthareview.com/easy-macaroni-salad-recipe/

Let’s bring some fruit in here today. Once again Lia and I both love Mandarin oranges. We stock up on the individual serving size containers. They are just the right size for a snack and the are great when packing for a trip.

We can’t forget Milk! There is nothing better than a cold glass of milk with chocolate cookies! I prefer whole milk instead of the 2% or 1%. Now doesn’t this look like a delicious snack, milk and cookies?

So these are on the A to Z Food Challenge – M list for today. What’s your favorite food that starts with the letter M?

  1. Martha, I loved mac and cheese as a child and I still do. I loved cooking with my mother and grandmother. There is nothing like homemade mac and cheese.

Oh how I can smell my grandmother’s homemade mac and cheese! It’s great doing this challenge and having memories come out of them! We are so much alike Brenda!

I take my mac and cheese another step and add some canned tuna before baking. I think that and New England Clam Chowder are my two favorite Foods. May sound strange coming from a chef but long before I was a chef I was a kid and I picked those favorites as I was first living on my own. I won’t pass up a homemade peach cobbler with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a Great homemade apple pie with a slice of cheddar cheese or French vanilla ice cream. Now you’ve gone and stirred up some memories so I think I will make some cowboy cookies later today. If I gain weight it is Lia’s cooking suggestions that caused ir.

OMG my grandmother added tune and topped it with crumbled potato chips Chef William! I add tuna if I make mac and cheese from scratch by when Lia pulls out her packs, we don’t add it. I love that my blogs bring back memories to my readers! Now you have me wondering what are cowboy cookies. I’ll be watching your page for them!
