A to Z Food Challenge – L

I’ve been waiting for the A to Z Food Challenge – L! My hubby loves Lettuce and his salad consists of just a big bowl of lettuce with oil and vinegar dressing.

We have always had a great lettuce crop in our garden and last year Lia was right there helping to pick papa’s lettuce. We grow Lear lettuce and the leaves are huge. The more we pick, the more the lettuce grows!

There’s nothing better than picking lettuce in the morning and have a bowl of fresh lettuce for dinner. Lia even helped add the dressing to papa’s dinner!

We had problems finding lettuce plants and even lettuce seeds this year so unfortunately we didn’t plant lettuce. But we are members of the National Wildlife Federation and as a thank you for supporting the Butterfly Heroes program they sent use a package of flowering seeds to attract butterflies plus a package of vegetable seeds. It just so happened that we got LETTUCE seeds!

Since it’s so hot our vegetable garden days are over for this year. But we planted the Lettuce seeds in a large hanging pot so we can move it around depending on the sun and shade. We now have lettuce growing!

These are two different dinner salads I made. Since Rich prefers just lettuce for his dinner salad. I made my salad with lettuce, hard boiled eggs, tomatoes and cut up chicken with caesar dressing. On a side note both were delicious but I forgot to add cheese to mine!

Here’s a lite lunch idea! It’s a BLT without bread! Take a large lettuce leaf, add some bacon and sliced tomatoes and fold the lettuce around it like a taco! If you don’t eat bacon you can add any other type of lunch meat or even leftover chicken.

So there you have the A to Z Food Challenge – L! When our now 16 year old granddaughter was about 5 years old, she had a garden in our yard just like Lia does now! Trin was very proud of her garden too. What do you add to your lettuce when you make a salad?
