A Few More Blog Tips
A few weeks ago I shared some Blog Tips for Newbies. Well they weren’t just for newbies, anyone can learn from tips! Today I have a few more blog tips that might come in hand for both new and seasoned bloggers.
Tip 1
I use keywords when writing a blog and it helps get more traffic to my blog. Choose words that go along with your blog topic or might describe what you are writing about. Before posting my blog I add tags to the right side section on my WordPress site.
Tip 2
When I post my blog I add keywords to the end of my blog link with a hashtag in front of the word. When I’m blogging in a challenge I tag the challenge name and other words that might be of help to readers.
For the Ultimate Blog Challenge blogs I use #UBC and #blogboost so when my readers click on either it will take them to others that have posted in the challenge. This is what I see when I click the hashtags.
My almost 2 year old great granddaughter Lia has taken over my blog for her Friday Story Time by Lia! The hashtags used for her blogs are #LiaFaith, #LiatheBabyBlogger, and #FridayStoryTimebyLia. Lia is such a ham when she sees the camera and in all her blogs she shares smiles for everyone. I’m planning on putting all her blogs together in a book form and give them to her when she turns 18 years old. It will be a book of memories.
Tip 3
When I posted Blog Tips for Newbies a few weeks ago, I mentioned about using CTRL/Z if your content mysteriously disappears while writing your blog. Yes that happened to me many times and sometimes when I would lose internet or just hit the wrong button and close off the browser I’m on my blog was gone forever. If that happens ctrl/Z won’t work and that’s why I save my work often as I’m writing it. The SAVE DRAFT button is my friend and I click it after I’ve written a few paragraphs and always after I’ve added a bank of photographs. It’s much better it save draft often rather than having to retype your blog.
Tip 4
My fourth tip for today is EYE APPEALING PHOTO BACKDROPS. When taking still life photos for my blog, I like to add a backdrop that adds to the photo. It can be something as simple as a piece of fabric or lace, even sand on the beach works. When taking outdoor photos, I like to use our weathered picnic table or a flower backdrop. It doesn’t have to be an expensive purchased backdrop, when taking photos use your imagine and find unique ways to make eye appealing photo backdrops.
Tip 5
My last tip is for those in the Ultimate Blog Challenge. Every day our wonderful host Paul sends an email with a suggested topic for the daily blog. You can use that or use your own. He also has a post with the date listed on top for those in the challenge to add their link. You can also post individually on the page but I’ve come to the conclusion that if you post in the group link you may get more action. Bloggers who post here can easily find each daily post without them getting lost in the stream of individual links. This is just another way to increase traffic to your site. The more people that see you post, the more people will read you post!
This is a blog I wrote back in 2015, about 6 months after I started blogging. I shared some tips for adding interesting photos to a blog. http://themarthareview.com/tips-for-adding-photos-to-reviews-and-blogs/
It seems like we are always learning no matter how long we have been blogging and I like to pass on what I learn to other bloggers with a few more blog tips.
These are a solid ideas, Martha! Thank you! And I really like your idea of making a book for Lia when we turns 18. Now that’s forward-thinking!
Thanks Lori, I’m not sure how to go about it yet but I want to get started so it’s not too overwhelming if I wait until she’s 16 to start it! Thanks for visiting my blog Lori!
Martha, what a great idea!! Lia is going to love getting her book. But she’ll also love all those memories. My one suggestion would be to start the book now & add to it as you go along, so you won’t have an overwhelming project to do all at once. Thanks for the blog tips, too!
Yes I definitely need to get started on it. She already has so many blogs written. I have to plan my attack of the book, thinking maybe put them in a binder and have each year be like a chapter so i can add her stories as they are written in the blog. It will be exciting Jeanine and you will have been part of it!
These are really useful blog tips Martha. I always forget about hashtags. Thank you!
During the challenge if you add #ubc and and #blogboost you may find more traffic Jyll!
Very useful tips. The hashtags definitely help in getting extra traction
Yes they sure do Amrita. By adding #ubd and #blogboost it also gives Paul a shout-out for all he does.
I LOVE tip #5 about your post link under the “post of the day” thread that Paul starts.
One of the things that turned me off about this challenge is finding the posts in the Facebook group.
Now I’ll honestly admit it could just be me! I’m blind in one eye and all that clutter, scrolling, looking searching on Facebook makes me visually dizzy LOL
Much easier to find everything concerning the current blog day all in one spot. But that’s just my opinion.
It’s not just you Nancy, I have bad eyesight and it’s just so hard to try to go through the entire page looking for the daily posts. I’m not sure why more people don’t post in the daily thread. I’ve had people leave comments on my blogs and I have gone back through the threads and can’t find theirs and that upsets me because I like to return the favor.
Great tips. I really need to get back to posting into the groups.
It would be great if you could join in the Ultimate Blog Challenge in October Amanda!
