76 Trombones

Some may know the story of my 76 trombones but some don’t, so here is my story and I’m sticking to it.

I had a triple whammy this March. My 76th birthday was March 12th, the first one without Rich celebrating with me since we met in 1965.

My 76th Birthday

The end of February when I was visiting my daughter Christine and her hubby in Virginia she had a surprise birthday party for me and they gave me a beautiful blue butterfly for my fence and Mason Jars! Snowball’s birthday is April 15th and they even got him a present. He loves his new car seat, it’s high enough so he can look out the window!

I was back home for my birthday and Alex and Lia took me to Rich’s and my favorite restaurant. If you go on your birthday, you get a free meal. Look at my prime rib!! It was so huge I brought enough home and froze it for three more meals. Alex knows I love tea and she gave me some delicious flavored tea drops and a beautiful glass tea cup with blue butterflies and roses all around the outside.

I had a great birthday with my family and I know Rich was watching over us.

BUT… the following day I tripped and did a face plant on the sidewalk. I can’t show you the pictures from the ER but let’s just say they weren’t pretty. This picture was taken 7 days later. I ended up with a concussion, multiple facial bruises and my top teeth got pushed back but thankfully they didn’t break. My neighbor called the ambulance and the ER doctor was surprised that I didn’t break any facial bones by they way I looked. My nose, forehead and upper lip, both inside and out were all scraped by the concrete and I lost a few layers of the skin on my nose. It’s now very tender and baby soft. The dentist was able to reposition my front teeth, she did a CT scan and the teeth and roots are together but because of the severe bruising and scar tissue inside of my lips and gums she is checking them to make sure they will heal okay. I can laugh now but when it first happened my lips looked like a botched Botox job. I tell people I was playing 76 Trombones to start my 76th year but then the music when flat along with me.

Indiana Bound

Grandson Zac flew down on March 24th to load up the U-Haul and tow Alex’s car to Indiana. While it was bitter sweet, I handled it well because I want Alex and Lia to be settled in where they love, with her brother. I’ll miss them very much but already have trips planned to visit them. They told me I’m going up for Mother’s Day. If you missed Friday Story Time by Lia, she wrote her blog about her new chapter in Indiana.

March into April

So I made it through March where I had my triple whammy of my birthday, my face plant and the kids moving to Indiana and then along comes April. My eye surgery was scheduled for April 1st! I asked the doctor if when I get to the surgery center would he be laughing and say April Fools, there will be no surgery today. LOL But that wasn’t the case, surgery went as planned just like it did for the other eye. I had a Vitrectomy which is where they remove the vitreous fluid from the eye and replace it with a gas bubble. All went well and now I can see! Once again, what would I do without my daughter? Christine and Bryon came down the end of March for a few days so she there with me through the surgery. I feel like there is now a role reversal where my daughter is more like my mother. I love her so much!
