5 Blog Tips

For Day 2 of the Cornerstone Content Blog Challenge, the topic is to post a list. Today I’m sharing 5 blog tips with you. Some I have already shared but they are worth sharing again for any newbies or just as a refresher for those that may have forgotten these.

TIP #1

When sharing a blog link in your blog, have it open to a new page. That way your readers will still have your blog open to go back to continue reading.

I have WordPress blog and it’s easy to do this by highlighting the link you are adding then click on the link icon that pops up. That opens another window and click the box to “open in new tab.” It’s that simple and so much easier for your readers to get back to your blog because it stays open in your tabs. Sometimes if your readers go to another blog link, they get busy reading it and may forget the main blog they were reading!

Try it with this link. Click on it and my main blog window will still be open. After you check out the Appearance blog you don’t have to hit backspace to get to my blog, just click it in your browser window. While your reading this link, it also has a cool tip on changing your blog background color!

TIP #2

If you have long paragraphs in your blog, the sentences can seem to run together. Break them up into smaller paragraphs that are easier to read.

I also like to add photos pertaining to the paragraphs for a bit more interest for my readers. This was my recent blog about our new kitchen and you can see how the photos break up the paragraphs. If you missed this de-cluttering challenge blog, here’s the link: http://themarthareview.com/our-kitchen-is-de-cluttered/

TIP #3

Speaking of photos, add eye appealing photos to your blog. There are sites were you can get free photos to add but I like to add my own.

I add a lot of photos and I find they are more interesting with an eye appealing background.

For my food photographs, I take them in portrait mode as it focuses just on the plate and blurs the background out. Almost looks like a professional photograph even though it’s taken with my Google Pixel phone!

TIP #4

On the line of photos still, try adding a short video somewhere in your blog.

Everyone loves action and a short, even 10-20 second video can keep your readers excited about reading more.

TIP #5

My last tip is one you may have remembered from previous blog tips I’ve shared. It’s CONTROL Z! Since I have found this little trick from my granddaughter it’s one of my best friends! While typing your blog, have you even hit something and the content you typed just disappeared? Don’t panic!

As long as you haven’t typed anything else, just click the CTRL tab and the letter Z and your content will magically reappear! I’ve shared this before but some readers still like this reminder!

So these are my 5 Blog Tips for today,do you think any of them will be helpful to you? I’m sure I’ll be finding more and sharing them as well!

  1. So I do all of them but the CTRL-Z is new to me! Definitely one I will have to remember!

I love your tips, but number is a great one and I have used it many times.

  3. It’s always a good idea to add a video! And what a wonderful video that was!! Those are great tips, Martha. Especially the one about breaking up your text. When I first started blogging, I didn’t know to do that and it took me a while to figure it out. So it is perfect advice for new bloggers!

I wrote the same way when I started Jeanine, basically wrote one long paragraph! Glad you enjoyed the sample vuideo, that was my first slow motion video!

  4. I’m thinking that I don’t have the video feature on my WordPress blogs because I use the free version. I’ll check that again. I do like to use a lot of photos. Thanks for the tip about using portrait mode for food photos.

    • Martha says:

HMMM, not sure about that Virginia. Can you share YouTube videos? The portrait mode is also great for focusing on a section of a photo like maybe lace on a dress.

    • Martha says:
