3 Home Exterior Improvements to Make
I bet lately, you’ve been wanting to hang out outside more, right? The weather just draws people out of the house and I’m all for it. I love being outside! There are some home improvements that you’ll want to make, though, to make sure that you are able to actually enjoy your front and backyard. Here are 3 home exterior improvements to make so that you can enjoy your outdoor space year-round, but especially this fall and winter:
Plant fall flowers
Typically, when I talk about planting flowers, I’m talking about spring flowers. However, this year, I’m going all out with the fall colors in my yard. Now, I’m not that great when it comes to landscaping, but I recently heard a tip from another blogger. She said that her mums always die (mine do too!), but one hack is to plant FAKE mums in planters. If you get high-quality mums and plant them in a planter with real fall plants, as well, they will look real, and they will last forever. You can save them for next year (either dig them out and plant again next year, or buy a new spring planter pot) and it will not only look great, but it will become a very affordable way to add color to your porch. You could technically do this with your landscaping too, but I’d rather leave that to the professional, such as Sabba’s, which I’ll talk about next.
Work on drainage
One exterior project that is ALWAYS useful is working on drainage. If you have a lot of sitting water in your yard, it can be hard to actually use your yard because typically, it’s just a big mud pile. What is even worse is the fact that sometimes, excess amounts of water sitting in your yard can damage the foundation of your home – or even the bottom of your walls/floors – depending on how high the water is. If you need help with yard drainage, I know a company for you, and they can help with a lot of these other projects on this list, too.
Sabba’s Landscaping, Lawn, Pavers, and Fencing is a NJ-based company providing high-quality Monmouth County landscaping services, hardscaping services, yard drainage services, fencing services, retaining wall and firepit installs, and so much more. When it comes to yard drainage, they can do grading work, french drains, and more. Sabba’s customers appreciate their knowledgeable, consultative approach, to find the best approach to remediating drainage issues.
“Sabba’s service is delivered at the highest levels, in a friendly manner, and at fair rates. Danny Sabba takes continuing education courses over the winter months to enhance his knowledge base and skills. He is committed to continually improving the level of the skills he delivers to homeowners” THIS is the kind of company that I like to work with – a company that goes above and beyond to make sure they know as much as they possibly can about the work they do, so that they are able to provide extremely high-quality services. According to their site, “If you are looking for personalized service and creative drainage solutions, look no further. Call Danny Sabba at (732) 840-7667 and let Sabba’s Landscaping, Lawn, Pavers, and Fencing design a yard drainage system that will keep your Monmouth County property, safe, healthy and beautiful.”
Consider pest control
A variety of pests, such as mice, spiders and stink bugs, begin to enter homes at the onset of cooler weather looking for spots to nest through the winter. To prevent or reduce the occurrence of these unwelcome intruders in the fall, consider some basic fall maintenance for pest control. A few things that you could do are sealing cracks around windows, doors, and electrical outlets. Pay close attention to areas around siding and utility pipes, and especially under wood fascia + other openings. Also, one thing that is not outside, but is important is to remove clutter from garages, attics, basements, etc. and install scream and/or weather stripping on windows and doors. Outside, you’ll want to store firewood away from the house and you could consider spraying a non-toxic pest control spray in your hard, such as Wondercide. This stuff WORKS and is totally free of harmful pesticides and other chemicals. It works wonders. They also have an indoor spray, a dog wash bar, and more.
