Before I get started on my blog I want to introduce myself to the new UBC members and welcome back my friends! My name is Lia and I’m 22 months old. I’ve been posting blogs since I’ve been about 8 months old. My Great grandma helps me with my blogs and we both have so much fun writing my Friday Story Time by Lia. I look forward to visiting your blogs and I hope you enjoy my story today about My Golden Shovel.

Back in the April UBC I wrote a blog about my Reflection garden that GGpapa and GGmama created for me. Of course I helped with everything from helping papa get the soil ready to planting the flowers. In May I added on to my blog with a part 2 with all the exciting additions. The part I like the best was adding pretty stepping stones around the edge and wait until you see the bench mama saved from the trash! http://themarthareview.com/lias-reflection-garden-chapter-2/

While GGpapa was clearing out the corner of the yard for my garden he found an old broken rake and shovel both without handles. Mama hung the rake on the fence and added a pretty butterfly welcome sign to it. (I love butterflies!)

The shovel was buried under the weeds and it doesn’t look very pretty for my garden. But GGmama was trying to figure out what to do with it. One of our neighbors suggested to put my name on it! Well once mama and mommy start thinking, I never know what they are planning!

Mama loved the idea of having my name on the shovel but first she spray painted it gold! WOW, look at my golden shovel in the garden.

The other day mommy, mama, papa and I had a craft day to work on my golden shovel. The first step was so much fun! Mama painted the bottom of my feet pink! After I saw how easy it was I took the brush and painted them myself. After all they are my feet! See I have pink feet!

Now that I had paint on my feet mommy helped me press them on the shovel one foot at a time. Look now my footprints are on the shovel!

One more step… I have to get the paint of my feet! Papa filled a dish with soap and water and mama scrubbed the paint off. No more pink feet!!

It was so hot outside when I painted my footprints we decided to take the shovel inside and paint the rest of the design there. While papa steadied the shovel mommy turned my footprints into a beautiful butterfly! I love butterflies and have so many of them in my garden. She painted some hearts on the top right side and put my name on the left side. She even added the date so I will know when this beautiful creation came to life as I get older.

Look at how beautiful my golden shovel looks in my garden! From an old rusty shovel to a masterpiece that I can keep forever! I even have a butterfly on my shirt with gold on it!

This is my garden today with beautiful flowers, lots of butterfly garden ornaments, stepping stones, an Angel to watch over us and MY GOLDEN SHOVEL!

I hope you enjoyed reading about my golden shovel and how it finishes off my garden. I will be added a part 3 garden story soon, there are more changes since part 2 was written. Enjoy the UBC, I’ll be back with more Friday Story Time blogs and maybe even a surprise blog during the week!

I love doing photo stories Elisa. I’ve found that photos get more views and comments than blogs without them. Plus Lia is such a photo ham, she loves sharing her smiles.

I see Lia being the lead in the movie, “The Golden Shovel”, what a beautiful little oasis ….great use of the found shovel and rake, Glad you put more than just a name on the shovel. I keep thinking of how I can fix up the corner of my yard like that now……and then invite Lia over to enjoy it with us……Of course, we’d have to have her footprints on a okay maybe SILVER shovel as the GOLDEN shovel is at mama and papa’s yard, but….my congrats for doing such a beautiful job on the garden oasis. I hope you have started a trend in garden oasis creation. And too many years of enjoyment for you all!

    • Martha says:

OMG that sounds like a plan Pamela! We all are having a wonderful time adding new (and old) items to Lia’s garden. It started with just 2 transplanted plants and now it’s an entire corner filed with love..a little piece of heaven. We’d love to visit and Lia would so love your dogs!

What a beautiful garden! Love the story about your golden shovel.

  12. The shovel is beautiful and I am thinking of making something like this with C’s name and date on it. This way he will always know when we started our garden. For us it might be our fence we are repainting or the Wheelbarrow my brother game me which I was thinking of putting our last name and in Mrmory of and putting everyone who has passed away and if C makes this for me it would be the perfect place for his name and the date. I just need to find someone who is good at Craft to help us because C and I aren’t but if it’s paint and we mess up we can just repaint David says.

    • Martha says:

I love the idea of turning the wheelbarrow into “rolling memories” of those that have passed away. What a family project for you, C and David! The one thing about paint, if you mess it up, you can paint over it! When Lia was painting mommy a birthday present, she got a drop of pink paint onto her purple footprint. We added a green stem and created a small flower! Let me know when you start your project Glenda!

  13. Amanda Gene says:

That is such a cute idea to put your name and feet prints on the shovel. I love butterflies too.

    • Martha says:

We have Lia’s footprints on a plaster mold from her first Christmas, she was 4 months old. I’d fun watching her grow Amanda.

  14. vidya says:

    • Martha says:

I’m happy so many enjoy watching Lia’s garden Vidya! I think the golden shovel will be the most magical thing for her garden, but who knows. I thought the bench was the best thing! LOL
